Our Mission and History
About Us
About
A pilot-scale, non-GMP open testbed for biological, technological, and digital innovations in bioprocessing.
Open to start-ups, academics, and bioprocess industry partners, both nationally and internationally. Typical projects are focused on biological production, technological innovation, and digital innovation. The production facility offers a range of bioprocessing equipment and laboratories for end-to-end bioprocessing. The center is also open to university courses who aim to provide students with practical, hands-on learning in a real bioprocessing setting.
With the guidance from our bioprocess expert staff, Testa Center will provide you the opportunity to verify your methodology, gain experience in pilot-scale settings, accelerate industrialization, and increase your project value to investors.

About
A collaboration between cytiva and the Swedish government
How it started
In 2016, Cytiva and the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation were reviewing options for accelerating growth for innovative technologies in Bio-pharma. In 2016 they made a deal to lower the thresholds into the bio-production by making modern Bio-pharma infrastructure available to the world in a way that benefits academia, small and medium companies developing, testing and verifying bio-production products and technology.
Where does Cytiva come into play?
Cytiva is a global provider of technologies and services that advance and accelerate the development and manufacture of therapeutics. Testa Center is the platform for Cytiva to listen, learn, collaborate and do training with academia and small-medium businesses.
In practical work this implies:
- Joining the ecosystem of cutting-edge research and startup innovation.
- Using Testa Center as testing ground for collaborations and projects.
- Learn startup culture by rotation of staff from the Biopharma company to Testa Center.
- Training and professional development of the life science workforce in general.

Nordic Therapeutic Alliance
Despite a vibrant life science industry, too few advanced therapies reach patients in the Nordic region. The Nordic Therapeutic Alliance (NTA) aims to tackle this by building a high-tech ecosystem that accelerates development and reduces costs, making the Nordics leaders in innovative therapies. Testa Center actively supports this initiative as a project manager, innovation hub, discussion leaders, and providing validation environments for new solutions.

BRIDGE Sweden
BRIDGE Sweden is a national effort designed to strengthen Sweden’s capacity to develop and produce future biological pharmaceuticals. As project coordinator, Testa Center plays a central role in shaping a platform that connects research infrastructures, innovation actors, and early‑stage drug developers across the country. The initiative is funded through Swelife and Vinnova and runs from 2024 to 2026, with the ambition to reinforce Sweden’s position as a competitive life science nation with strong capabilities in precision medicine and bioproduction.
The project brings together a broad consortium of partners representing the full innovation chain, from discovery and early development to scale‑up and commercialization. This includes SciLifeLab DDD, STUNS, the Stem Cell Center and pre‑GMP facility at Lund University, Umeå Biotech Incubator, Uppsala University and UUI, Karolinska Institutet and KI Innovation, as well as Lund University and LU Innovation. Through this collaboration, BRIDGE Sweden is working to harmonize handover processes, improve access to specialized expertise, and create a more seamless national pathway for biological drug development.

WARA Medicine
WARA Medicine was established to address a growing need: the pharmaceutical industry is generating increasingly complex, high dimensional data, yet decision-making processes remain constrained by traditional analytical tools. WARA unites Sweden's leading universities and industrial partners, creating an environment where cutting-edge AI research can be tested and validated. In collaboration with AstraZeneca and Cytiva, Testa Center provides the physical environment where AI-driven methods can be tested under bioprocessing conditions.
